Instead of lamenting the state of your life and dwelling on your perceived failures, consider taking action to chart a different course. While I can’t promise you immediate success, the act of trying is a crucial first step. Don’t tell me that pursuing change would be a waste of time when idly sitting accomplishes nothing. Time is a precious commodity, and as someone in their 40s, I’ve come to realize how swiftly it passes. If you don’t make something meaningful out of it, it will slip through your fingers, leaving you with regret.
In addition to my day job, which is steadily growing and promising, I’ve ventured into online work, a challenging endeavor for someone my age living in Morocco, with only basic computer skills and limited knowledge of new social media platforms. I’ve had to teach myself everything, relying on YouTube and ChatGPT for guidance. With their help, I managed to create a functional website. The current hurdle I face is attracting traffic. Should I write more posts, purchase traffic, or engage on social media? I’ve tried various strategies and even sent out affiliate links to an email list. Merch by Amazon declined my application, and my KDP book sales suffered due to Amazon’s policy change, which no longer provided ISBNs for non-book items.
I’ve come to realize that being a jack of all trades isn’t the most effective approach; it’s better to excel in one area. While I’m not there yet, I’ve made significant progress. Just last year, I didn’t even know how to send an email, and now I can create posts on my website. But what’s missing is a clear plan. My day job drains me, leaving me too tired to work on my computer when I get home, often leading to unproductive diversions. Creating something is easy; it’s the day-to-day management that’s challenging.
So, what I need is a plan — a focused direction and a defined goal. Once I have that, I can outline a step-by-step strategy, ensuring I’m not overwhelmed or confused. This is the first time I’ve put all of this into words, and it’s becoming evident that I should do it more often. The journey ahead may be uncertain, but with a well-defined plan, it’s a journey worth embarking upon.
