Keyword Research Tool
The Keyword Research tool is your most powerful asset in the kit. It combines a live Keyword Discovery Engine, a smart heuristic scoring system, and a full spreadsheet — all in one self-contained file.
API Requirements at a Glance
| Feature | Requires API Key? | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Google Autocomplete suggestions | FREE | No key needed |
| Datamuse related-phrase engine | FREE | No key needed |
| Heuristic difficulty & intent scoring | FREE | No key needed |
| Claude AI — advanced analysis | OPTIONAL | Free tier at console.anthropic.com |
| Real search volume data | OPTIONAL | DataForSEO free sandbox: 10K credits/mo |
Keyword Discovery Engine — Step by Step
- Open the tool. At the top, expand the Discover Keywords panel.
- Type a seed keyword (e.g., affiliate marketing for beginners).
- Check the modifier combos you want —
best, how to,vs,free,2026, etc. — to broaden the sweep. - Click Discover. The engine fires queries to Google Autocomplete + Datamuse in parallel and merges the results.
- Results appear in a preview grid. Each one already has estimated difficulty, intent, and priority filled in.
- Check the keywords you want, then click Add Selected to Spreadsheet.
best affiliate marketing for beginners vs affiliate marketing for beginners 2026 — you'll surface long-tail gems that a single pass misses. How Difficulty & Intent are Scored
Since real-time difficulty data requires paid APIs (Ahrefs, SEMrush), the tool uses a heuristic engine that scores keywords based on linguistic signals:
- Phrase length — 4+ words biases toward Easy (long-tail = less competition)
- Brand presence — known brand names (Amazon, Shopify, etc.) score harder
- Year modifiers — "2025", "2026" score easier (fresh content, less saturation)
- Question words — "how to", "what is", "why" trend Informational intent + Easy
- Commercial words — "best", "top", "review", "vs" → Medium difficulty, Commercial intent
- Transactional words — "buy", "cheap", "discount", "deal" → Transactional intent
You can override any score at any time — click Edit (pencil icon) on a row to open the full edit modal.
Setting Up Claude AI (Optional)
Claude AI enriches each keyword with intent classification and content angle suggestions. It works entirely in your browser — your API key is stored locally and never sent anywhere except Anthropic's servers.
- Go to console.anthropic.com and sign up for a free account.
- Navigate to API Keys in the left sidebar and click Create Key. Copy the key — you won't see it again.
- In the Keyword Research tool, click the ⚙ Settings tab (top of the page).
- Paste your key into the Claude API Key field and click Save Settings.
- Click Test Claude Key to confirm it's working — you'll see a green success toast.
- Discovery results will now include AI-enhanced intent labels and content angle ideas for every keyword.
Setting Up Real Search Volume — DataForSEO + Cloudflare Worker
Real monthly search volume data comes from DataForSEO. Because this kit runs as a local HTML file (file://), browsers block direct API calls for security reasons. The fix is a tiny Cloudflare Worker you deploy once for free — it acts as a relay between your browser and DataForSEO. The worker file (dataforseo-proxy-worker.js) is included in this kit's ZIP folder.
Step 1 — Create a free DataForSEO account
- Go to dataforseo.com/signup and create a free account.
- The free sandbox gives you 10,000 API credits/month — enough for extensive keyword research.
- Note your login email and password — you'll paste these into the tool's Settings tab.
Step 2 — Deploy the Cloudflare Worker (2 minutes)
- Go to dash.cloudflare.com and sign up for a free account (or log in).
- In the left sidebar click Workers & Pages → then Create.
- Choose Start with Hello World! — give it any name like
dfs-proxy— then click Deploy. - Click Edit code on the next screen.
- Open the file
dataforseo-proxy-worker.jsfrom this kit's ZIP folder in any text editor. Select all → Copy. - Back in the Cloudflare editor: Select all the existing code → Delete → Paste your copied worker code.
- Click Deploy (top right). You'll see a success banner.
- Copy your Worker URL — it looks like:
https://dfs-proxy.yourname.workers.dev
Step 3 — Connect everything in the Keyword Research tool
- Open keyword-research-spreadsheet.html and click the ⚙ Settings tab.
- Enter your DataForSEO Login (email) and DataForSEO Password.
- In the CORS Proxy Worker URL field, paste your Cloudflare Worker URL followed by
/?url=:
https://dfs-proxy.yourname.workers.dev/?url= - Check Use DataForSEO Sandbox if you want to test with free credits (recommended to start).
- Click Save Settings.
- Click Test DataForSEO — you should see a green success message confirming the connection works.
- You're live! Discovered keywords will now show real monthly search volumes.
Bulk Import from a Text List

Export
Click Export CSV to download your full keyword list including all columns: keyword, volume, difficulty, intent, priority, tags, and notes. Import it into Google Sheets, Ahrefs, or your CMS at any time.

Calculators
Commission Potential Calculator
The Commission Calculator projects your monthly and annual earnings based on five inputs:
- Monthly visitors to your site or channel
- Click-through rate (CTR) on your affiliate links
- Conversion rate of clicks into purchases
- Average order value (AOV) of the products you promote
- Commission rate from your program
Work backwards from a goal: if you want $3,000/month and you know your conversion rate and AOV, the calculator tells you exactly how much traffic you need to generate it.
Revenue Diversification Calculator
The Revenue Calculator helps you balance multiple income streams so you're not dangerously dependent on a single program. Enter earnings from each stream; it outputs a Diversification Score and a risk level assessment.
Income Streams Planner
The Income Streams tool maps the five core income streams in affiliate marketing (content, email, courses, SaaS, physical products) and helps you prioritize which to build next based on your current stage.
Compliance Checker
The Compliance Checker audits your affiliate marketing practices against FTC guidelines, GDPR basics, and network-specific rules.
What It Checks
- Disclosure statement presence and placement (above the fold vs. buried)
- Cookie consent requirements for EU/UK visitors
- Amazon Associates-specific rules: price disclosure, prohibited phrases, image usage
- Email marketing compliance — CAN-SPAM + GDPR basics
- Social media disclosure requirements (Instagram, YouTube, TikTok)
Legal Document Templates
Your kit includes three pre-written templates — open each file, find every [YOUR NAME] / [YOUR WEBSITE] placeholder, and replace it with your real information before publishing:
- Privacy Policy — data collection, cookies, and third-party services
- Terms of Service — usage terms and affiliate relationship disclosures
- Disclaimer — earnings disclaimer and affiliate link disclosure
Link Intelligence Center
The Link Intelligence Center is your central hub for managing every affiliate link across your business. Create, organize, and track all your affiliate URLs — then connect each one to the commissions it generates for full attribution.
What You Can Do
- Add affiliate links — Store the name, URL, associated program, campaign, source, and medium for every link.
- Tag your links — Add comma-separated tags (e.g.,
banner, homepage, featured) to stay organized. - Track performance — Record clicks, conversions, and revenue per link to see what's working.
- Link to programs — Associate each link with a program from your Program Tracker for context.
- Commission attribution — When adding a commission in the Commission Tracker, select the tracking link that generated it for full attribution.
Adding Your First Link
- Open the Link Intelligence Center.
- Click Add Link.
- Enter a descriptive name (e.g., Homepage Banner — Amazon), paste your affiliate URL, and optionally select the associated program.
- Add UTM tracking fields (Campaign, Source, Medium) if you use UTM parameters.
- Click Save Link. The link appears in your table immediately.
Commission Attribution
Once your links are saved, you can attribute commissions to specific links:
- Open the Commission Tracker.
- Click Add Commission.
- In the Tracking Link dropdown, select the link that generated this commission.
- Save the commission — the link name appears in the commission table so you can always see which link produced each sale.
Statuses
- Active — Link is live and being used.
- Paused — Temporarily inactive; won't appear in the active link dropdown of Commission Tracker.
- Archived — No longer in use; hidden from Commission Tracker dropdowns.
Import & Export
Use the Import CSV button to bulk-import links from a spreadsheet. The expected columns are: name, url, program_name, campaign, source, medium, tags, status, notes. Use Export to download your full link list as a CSV file.
Tips
- Use consistent naming conventions — e.g., Page — Program — Placement — so links are easy to identify in the Commission Tracker dropdown.
- Add all your existing affiliate links before recording commissions so attribution is complete.
- Use tags to group links by content type (blog, email, video) for quick filtering.
Data & Storage
How Data is Stored
Every tool stores its data in your browser's localStorage. This means:
- Data is completely private — it never leaves your device
- Data persists between sessions on the same browser and computer
- Data is browser and device specific — Chrome on your laptop and Chrome on your phone are separate stores
- Clearing browser data or site data will erase everything
Exporting Data
- Open any tool (Program Tracker, Keyword Research, etc.).
- Click the Export CSV button in the action bar.
- A
.csvfile downloads to your computer automatically. - Open it in Excel, Google Sheets, or any spreadsheet app to review or archive.
Importing Data
- Click Import CSV in the tool.
- Download the column template to see the exact format required.
- Fill in your data following the template structure.
- Upload the file. A preview shows your data before it's committed.
Syncing Across Devices
There's no cloud sync in the Starter Kit. The manual workflow is straightforward: export CSV on Device A → import CSV on Device B. This is the same pattern used by most local-first tools and keeps your data completely under your control.
Frequently Asked Questions
